Soaked In Glory and Full of Fire

Image
Read:  Acts 2           When I was little, my grandparents would come spend the weekends with us and we would do all kinds of fun things. We would have campouts where we built a fire and roasted marshmallows and hotdogs. We would go on bike rides and hikes. We would plant gardens and dig up trees in the woods and replant them in the yard to create our “orchard”.   My mawmaw is a story teller to her core, so everything we did was an adventure of wonder and amusement. The part of their visits I loved the most though, were the early mornings when I would wake up and crawl in bed with my mawmaw and ask her, “Please tell me a story.” She would pick out one of her hundreds of stories to tell and would transport us from our little room, in her cabin on my family’s Mississippi ranch to a rural cotton farm in the 1930s, in the northern hills of Mississippi. I loved to hear stories of her childhood and the way it was back then. She w...

STRESSED OUT

Image
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life” ( Matt 6:25-27 ) Stress , we all know it, we have all felt it, and some of us have probably felt it today. You didn’t  dress your kid for “theme” day, you forgot you had a big meeting today, it’s your best friend’s birthday but you haven’t so much as bought a card yet and you can’t remember if you fed the dog today. Stress is very common in life and everyone experiences it, yet it leaves us feeling isolated and alone. The devil uses stress to keep our minds so occupied that we don’t have room for God. The devil wil...

I AM NOT LIKE YOU

Image
“The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.” ― Walt Disney God did not intended on every human being to be the same as the next. Gasp, I know! What a concept that I am supposed to be different than you. In a society that nips this and tucks that to achieve what is perceived to be perfect beauty, we have to start loving ourselves for who we are. I am not meant to look, act or think just like you. You are not supposed to act, look or think just like the next person. God has placed certain gifts and talents inside each one of us and if we keep striving to keep up with the whoevers we will never realize our full potential in the kingdom of God. Take me for example, if we were on a boat that was about to sink and the only hope to keep it from sinking is that I have to solve a calculus problem, you better grab your floaties and snorkel because we are going down! Now, give my husband that same problem and he’s the hero that sav...

Pray With Me

Image
“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them." Matthew 18:19-20 Living in the south, it is customary and usually expected that someone prays for you. Feeling a little under the weather? Oh honey I’ll be praying for you. Have a job interview or a big test? Oh honey I’ll pray for you. Your husband is cheating on you with that floozy down the street who’s half your age and is tackier than Uncle Jim’s Christmas sweater? Oh Honey, I’ll be praying for you. Although it is a nice sentiment and a comforting phrase, we are doing each other an injustice by just praying for each other. We should start practicing the act of praying with each other instead of just for each other. Here’s Why:        It’s an easy response. Like I said above, “I’ll pray f...
