Matthew 5:13 reads “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Which, got me to thinking, (scary I know). How can I be like salt? Besides being pale white, I just couldn’t see any similarities between salt and me. How can I be like the salt of the earth and not lose my flavor? I don’t even understand salt itself! When my husband and I were first married, he always asked me to add more salt to ANYTHING I cooked. I was notorious for cooking enough spaghetti to feed an army and for not adding enough salt. Having attended culinary school and worked in the restaurant biz, my husband knew the role salt played in foods and he taught me it’s value, which took our food from being just good to great (if I do say so myself). What a concept that I am supposed to be different than you. In a society that nips this and tucks that to achieve what is perceived to be perfect beauty, we have to start loving ourselves for who we are. I am not meant to look, act or think just like you. You are not supposed to act, look or think just like the next person. God has placed certain gifts and talents inside each one of us and if we keep striving to keep up with the whoevers we will never realize our full potential in the kingdom of God. Feeling a little under the weather? Oh honey I’ll be praying for you. Have a job interview or a big test? Oh honey I’ll pray for you. Your husband is cheating on you with that floozy down the street who’s half your age and is tackier than Uncle Jim’s Christmas sweater? Oh Honey, I’ll be praying for you. Although it is a nice sentiment and a comforting phrase, we are doing each other an injustice by just praying for each other. Matthew 12:40     Why Three Days?  1.  Go d’s Perfect Timing In the Jewish Culture, a person was not considered dead unless he/she had been dead for at least 3 days, of course, being Jewish, Jesus was very aware of this. If he would have risen before “3 days”, no one would have considered it a miracle or a sign that he was the messiah. There is an amazing precision to God’s timing. If Jesus would have risen on day two, he would still have risen from the dead technically, but it would not have been accepted in his culture and time as a true resurrection from the dead. By waiting till the appropriate day and time to appear from the tomb, Jesus fulfilled his promises per the culture in which he lived.
